Understanding River and Floodplain Dynamics in a Changing World.

Rivers, and the communities that depend on them, are increasingly shaped by large disturbances, including floods, wildfires, and drought, as well as human actions such as land use change and stream restoration. In the River Dynamics and Disturbance Geomorphology (RiDGe) Lab at Utah State University, led by Dr. Juli Scamardo, we study how river landscapes record their disturbance histories, what makes rivers and floodplains resilient or sensitive to change, and how that change influences future disturbances.
